Unless you’ve been living under a very, very large rock, you may have noticed there’s a pandemic going on. Workplaces closed, schools closed, holidays and dreams were put on pause. COVID has, in some way or other, affected all of us.
One thing that seems to have surged though is the sale and conversion of vans up and down the country. We’ve seen so many quotes coming through now and with current situations, it’s clear to see why.
Everyone loves a holiday, but with things the way they are we’re all a bit dubious about booking something abroad. Will the holiday be cancelled? Will I get my money back? Will things change whilst I’m abroad and cause issues on return?
Save the hassle, get a camper and just go. Want a beach holiday? Take your pick, there’s loads of choices! The UK has some of the best beaches in the world and some are just around the corner from our office.
Even when there’re more localised lockdowns, you still have the opportunity to go somewhere and park up for a few nights. Just make sure you’re parked up legally or in a designated camping area.
With a converted campervan you have everything you need. Kitchen, bed, entertainment and the most elusive of luxuries these days, freedom. Just don’t forget a heater for any Winter trips!
Is it expensive to convert a van to a camper?
You can get a decent van for a very reasonable price too. Some of the older vans you can pick up for a couple of thousand and a conversion can be anything from a couple of hundred to potentially thousands.
You can do a self-build and do the work yourself with basic facilities or you can have a professional complete the project for you and make it better than any hotel you could stay in. When the works done, that’s it. You can use it again and again without worrying about booking a hotel room somewhere and, when things are sort of back to normal, you could also take it across to Europe.
We’ve witnessed people converting almost every type of vehicle. From much smaller estate cars right up to 7.5t super campers. The range of vehicles that can be converted is huge and can cater for everything from a fishing trip with the lads to a few days away with the family and even some space for the dogs. You’d be surprised what you can do with a VW Golf estate and with our modified car insurance we can cater for pretty much everything.
Where shall I go first?
Not sure where to go? GOOGLE! You’ll find a wealth of knowledge on Google from other campers. Best camping spots, best night sky views, mountains. Whatever you want to see, whatever you want to do, someone will be able to point you in the right direction. Alternatively, wing it. You’ve got your bed with you, you’ve got cooking facilities. Remember, there’s no such thing as lost, just lots of little mystery tours.
The DVLA are still being very difficult about reclassifying vehicles as a motorcaravan but here at Brentacre we see it as more than just a modified van or a van with windows. If it has everything required to be a camper, then we will treat it as such and ensure you have the right level of cover for all journeys, UK or abroad under our campervan insurance scheme.
